Per NCAA guidelines, UNCP Athletics primarily uses rapid antigen testing for the regular screening of student-athletes and staff participating in competitive sports. Rapid test results are generally returned within 15 minutes to an hour. SHS may also use rapid antigen tests in specific circumstances to screen individuals and identify the presence of COVID-19. Results from these tests are generally returned in 24 hours up to several days. The primary test used to diagnose infection is the standard PCR test. UNCP uses a variety of COVID-19 TESTS to determine exposure risk on campus. To protect individuals’ private health information, UNCP will not identify or offer personally identifying information about employees or students diagnosed with COVID-19. Additionally, as required, the university follows confidentiality guidelines and directives set forth in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
